...I bet they don't, because there won't be snow in Africa this time, and that is a fact. Anyhow, I was debating what classic 80's Christmas song to use this time around, and I this one takes the cake. I thought about Wham, "Last Christmas," but the video was really really bad, and not in a good way. So, it is Friday, and let me tell you, I could not be happier. I am going to clean and do laundry and get ready for my mini fiesta tomorrow night. Friends are coming over and we are making cookies and mulled wine and it is going to be lovely. I am even going to get a string of lights for my living room plant. Does anybody else feel like this year flew by faster than all of the rest? Here you go, enjoy the Band Aid, thoroughly. Bye!

I just want to express my deep sorrow for what recently took place in Bombay. I have very fond memories of both the Taj and Oberoi, both landmarks of the city. My love goes out to everyone affected.

I am totally obsessed with Santogold...at the moment. I think she is highly deserving of a post. She is definitely 80's influenced...style and sound. Tonight I am making eggplant curry...hopefully it doesn't taste like crap. I guess I can go around the corner and buy some and then pretend it was my creation if it does. Afterwards, it is game time. Taboo, maybe some Cranium, maybe even some Dominoes for old time sake. Then tomorrow I am going to Vegas to gamble my life away and sin. But really, I am going to see my mom. Maybe I will get lucky at the video poker machine. I sure did last time. I plan on gorging myself on turkey and beans and potatoes etc. and then laying around like a giant larbage. What else do people do during the holidays? Here you go my friends, enjoy!

I was in New York this weekend, as many of you already know. It was great, as usual. Rainy, cold, expensive, and out of control. I spent most of my time with my friend ConnieSewer in Queens, with Erte in Bed Stuy and with Kdiddy in Billyburg or Willyburg, or Williamsburg, or whatever. I always hear about how Billyburg is super hipster trendy, and I remember it being just so when I was visiting way back when in like 2002 or something. But this time around, totally different. Maybe it's just because San Francisco hipsters are way more abundant, or maybe it's because SF is way smaller, or maybe the hipster trends are different...I don't know. What I am getting at, is that is wasn't tragically hip or anything, it was in fact, super cool. I got me some really cool kicks, bagels and pizza, and some over-priced yet TAAASTY Meji food. Another really cool thing about my trip, is that at the end of it, I was happy to come home. Every other time I have gone out to NY to visit homies, I never want to leave. This time, SF was a callin'... which I think is a very good sign. I have finally established myself, all by myself, in a new city. I have many lovely new friends, a partner in crime named Zorbs, a nice place to live, a healthy social life, and a super rad job (just to name a few)!
Anyhow, to the point. We danced it off one night at this place in the Lower East Side. They played the jams. One in particular resonates in my mind, due to the fact that it was (yet again) a household staple for sissy and I growing up as 80's addicted giant banged nerds. Here you go...lyrics below to follow. Who would have known that Peter Schilling was a German...such a dummy.
Major Tom
Jeder weiss genau, was von ihm abhängt,
Jeder ist im Stress,
Doch Major Tom macht einen Scherz.
Dann hebt er ab und...
(Refrain)
Völlig losgelöst von der Erde
Schwebt das Raumschiff völlig schwerelos.
Die Erdanziehungskraft ist überwunden,
Alles läuft perfekt schon seit Stunden.
Wissenschaftliche Experimente,
(Refrain)
(2x Refrain)
Völlig losgelöst von der Erde,
schwebt das Raumschiff schwerelos.
Völlig losgelöst von der Erde,
schwebt das Raumschiff völlig schwerelos.

Happy Halloween to all! I am not doing anything for the holiday this year, and I feel good about it. Movie and beer/wine and pizza and couch. I did realize all too late however, that I should have dressed up with my friend Corinna, as Milli Vanilli. We also thought about being spaghetti and meatballs. Anything for a laugh really.
If we would have gotten our braided jamaican/german/impersonator act s together, we could have re-enacted the "girl you know it's girl you know its girl you know its..." fiasco that was broadcast on the MTV music awards in 1990, or whatever.
This goes out to all of you who go above and beyond every year to make us all laugh. Rest in peace Rob Pilatus.

This blog will be dedicated to my sister. I was originally going to write about how cool my new co-worker Rich is (due to his ridiculous appearance in a fantastic 80's music video) but he lied, so he is not deserving of this high honor. Moving on, my sister has been asking me for days about this insanely bad 80's song that used to play in the background of Scott Baio's reality show. She says, "it goes...dooo dooo, dooooo." I was like "DUDE, you think you are going to find that crap on youtube?! NO WAY SISTA." Low and behold, the name of the song really is "Doot Doot," and she found it. So I guess I am the dummy. Lesson learned.
Check out the weirdo with the candy cane apparatus. And the hair, man oh man, if only I could rock that do.
GK, try and top that mister 80's man.
PEACE

Tonight's episode was so sad. Stupid attitude problem Kenley is still in the race (her dress was rad, I admit this, but she is still a jerk), along with Korto and Leanne, respectively. Jerell went home (tear falls). I liked him, he was funny and different and gay. I love gays.
Oh yea, so this past weekend was out of hand...in a good way! Corinna is back from Greece, meaning Corikki is back, which is the best thing about my life currently. I had a mini-party for her on Friday, giant success. It was the first time having friends in my little studio and it was off the chiiizzzaaaneee. We danced to Madonna, gushed about how much we love each other, ate cheese and olives, drank Bushmills out of a brown bag, you know, typical party stuff. Saturday was family dinner, and Sunday was Cut Copy with Cor to the ikki and Brian and his homies. I danced my face off. We were the sweatiest people in the club. It was amazing. Cut Copy is 80's fabulous. Like totally fer sher.
What else, tis that time my friends...put on your dance pants, get the aqua net and your party shoes...cause we is gonna boogie. So I don't know what is up with this library nerd video, but the song makes up for it. Cut Copy, the band that wished they were an 80's band. Get over it!

Being sick really sucks. I have been locked in all weekend watching movies and eating soup that I can't taste. And it is like 80 degrees today! WTF! This did however allow for loads of movie time. It started off with "Aaja Nachle," a Bollywood classic (don't you dare judge). It is all about the song and dance. And then I went for a Hollywood classic, "In This Our Life" featuring none other than the legendary Bette Davis. Man, I love this woman. Such a villain. After that I watched "The Savages" with Laura Linney and Phillip Seymore Hoffman... need I say more? It was tragic, about the offing of an elderly parent, but funny, and hopeful. Great cast. Lastly, I watched this cute independent British film called "Cash Back." About a insomniac who has the ability to freeze time, which he uses to record the nuances of events that take place during the graveyard shift. Charming.
For this weekend's post, I consulted my older sister Raneece, the queen of all things 80's. I kid you not, she is a real historian.
Growing up, we were always extremely fond of the John Hughes films (but I mean, who wasn't, right!?). We would watch them on repeat, memorizing the songs, the lines, the dance moves, the hair styles, etc... and then try to emulate them in our daily lives.
So here we are, 1982, Simple Minds. PS. How hot is James Spader?

Well hello there! In light of the issues that really matter, I am devoting a small segment to Mr. Bill Maher, whom I love and admire. This is not the most recent "New Rules," but nonetheless, it is one of the funniest. And it is most definitely still relevant.

Moving on, 1981 really was a great year. Not that I would know personally, but I mean, Ronald Reagan succeeded Jimmy Carter, becoming the 40th President of the United States. And he really did a lot of good things...like totally ignore the AIDS epidemic, and implement "Reaganomics," which provided massive tax cuts for the rich (what do you know!). Politics schmolitics, how about some good ol' fashioned party jams, early 80's style. Thank you Dale Bozzio.

Ok, time for the weekly 80's post. I am taking it back to 88' with this classic. For some reason, this song was stuck in my head for like 3 days, so why not share it with you. Check out the long flowing locks of manliness. Whoa man, too rich for my blood!
In other news, this is the first weekend in my short lived (6 months to be exact) SF life that I do not have any plans whatsoever for the weekend. And I plan on doing absolutely nothing...although I am sure I will be harassed tonight around 11. Oh, and I volunteer on Sunday, so I guess that is something.
I usually think of all these funny things I want to write about, but then when I actually have a minute, I remember none of them.
Fact, Whole Foods is irrestible. I can not walk by the place without going in to by something outrageously expensive that I don't need...like a $15 piece of cheese.
Has anybody been watching whack-o Sarah Palin and her nonsense? It is appaling.
BYEBYE!

I have decided, as of today, to use my blog. It will, however, be solely (well, not solely, but mostly) dedicated to the decade that we all love and miss so much... yes that's it, the 1980's. In particular, I will focus my posts on music videos that you should all start to learn and love immediately. Crazy dance moves, big hair, bad clothes, you name it. The celebration starts now!
Howard Jones baby
